| Programme description | English is a large and diverse discipline, and the English Department offers courses and supervision within British, American and other English-speaking literatures and cultures. They cover literature of all kinds and periods from the sixteenth century to the present, and discuss literary, cultural and methodological problems from a range of theoretical perspectives that reflect the research interests of the academic staff. In English linguistics the institute has wide professional expertise, and we can offer guidance within a broad range of areas such as applied linguistics, syntax, cognitive linguistics, translation theory, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, historical linguistics or combinations of these subjects. |
| Application deadline | Self-financing applicants: Application deadline for applicants from a non-visa country (do not need a visa to enter Norway) is 1 April for the autumn semester/1 October for the spring semester. | Formal prerequisites | A first degree (bachelor's degree) of three or four years' duration from an approved institution of higher education, as well as proficiency in the English language. Your bachelor's degree must have a specialisation in English. It should correspond to at least three semesters of full-time study, and include courses in the areas of linguistics and literature. |
