Programme descriptionEnglish is a large and diverse discipline, and the English Department offers courses and supervision within British, American and other English-speaking literatures and cultures. They cover literature of all kinds and periods from the sixteenth century to the present, and discuss literary, cultural and methodological problems from a range of theoretical perspectives that reflect the research interests of the academic staff. In English linguistics the institute has wide professional expertise, and we can offer guidance within a broad range of areas such as applied linguistics, syntax, cognitive linguistics, translation theory, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, historical linguistics or combinations of these subjects.
 
Application deadlineSelf-financing applicants: Application deadline for applicants from a non-visa country (do not need a visa to enter Norway) is 1 April for the autumn semester/1 October for the spring semester. Formal prerequisitesA first degree (bachelor's degree) of three or four years' duration from an approved institution of higher education, as well as proficiency in the English language. Your bachelor's degree must have a specialisation in English. It should correspond to at least three semesters of full-time study, and include courses in the areas of linguistics and literature.
