Programme descriptionThe Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Aarhus is the setting for the three-year Master’s degree programme in Medicine. A prerequisite for admission is that students have passed the Bachelor’s degree in Medicine. The Master’s degree leads to the Doctor of Medicine degree (cand.med.) and expands on the knowledge and proficiency students previously acquired in the Bachelor’s degree programme. Prowess – both theoretical and practical – is raised to a higher level, and the medical perspective becomes more extensive than previously experienced during the course of studies. It is also possible to take a year’s absence from studies during the course of the Master’s degree, to carry out a research project under supervision. The research year provides an opportunity to learn relevant methodology and become acquainted with academic literature, etc. As a student, there are also good opportunities for travelling abroad, partly in connection with exchange programmes with different universities within and outside Europe, and partly via student organisations. The majority of medical students leaving for exchange periods abroad do so during the Master’s degree section of their studies in medicine.
