Biology - plant biology/ Biology

University of Tromsø

The University of Tromsø is the northernmost university of the world. Our location on the edge of the Arctic implies a mission. The Arctic region is of increasing global importance. Climate change, the exploitation of Arctic resources and environmental threats are topics of great public concern, which UiT takes special interest in. Studying and working at UiT allows you to explore global issues from a close-up perspective.

CityTromsø, Norway

Programme duration2 years

Programme descriptionDepartment?s research in experimental plant biology consists of molecular biology, biochemistry, and eco-physiology/ environmental biology. Our research programs address the problem of growth and development of plants in general and their responses to the climatic factors such light and temperature and stress due to grazing in particular. Research skills in these areas are relevant to agriculture, forestry and horticulture because stress due to unfavourable climatic conditions is a major limiting factor for production. In this area of masters program the student can examine how plant development and genes and other cellular components (such as phytochromes and hormones) are controlled and regulated by various environmental variables. ; This area will be strongly oriented towards molecular biology and biotechnology but it is also possible to set up individual study program in classic developmental physiology or eco-physiology.
