| Programme description | Research on developing countries has shown that gender relations and in particular the political, social, economic and legal position of women are of vital importance for economic development and growth. This raises general questions concerning the relationship between women´s rights and economic and social development. The programme focuses on the early modern period (c. 1500?1800) and addresses questions about the long-term causes of economic and social development, in particular the role played by gender relations and gendered institutions. Students will study these questions from a comparative (mainly European) point of view, drawing on the expertise provided not only by Uppsala University but by the various partner universities as well. |
