| Programme description | In a competitive world it is important to have all the advantages that come with higher education. Through our master's program in Petroleum Engineering students will combine the importance of strong theoretical comprehension with practical tools at an expert level. Students can use the Faculty's close contacts with the oil industry in their research, focusing on current challenges facing local engineers. Our program is designed for a mixture of Norwegian and foreign students, and the Norwegian equivalent of a M.Sc. has been offered since 1977. The Master programme will prepare the students for a career in the international oil industry as well as provide a sufficient basis for doctoral studies and the pursuit of an academic career in education and research. In addition to our academic program, students enjoy a broad range of social and cultural activities in Stavanger. |

| Formal prerequisites | All students must have a Bachelor's Degree in Petroleum Engineering or equivalent. Students with a bachelor's degree in a closely related field may also be admitted by special permission but may be required to take extra courses. Applicants with work experience are preferred. Women and candidates from developing nations are encouraged to apply. English Language: All university-level students in Norway must be able to demonstrate their abilities in English. Applicants from European countries who can document a minimum of seven years English training are exempt from further testing. Students who have English as their mother tongue with secondary school education taught in English and students who have completed a bachelor's degree with English as the language of instruction are also exempt from testing. Students who take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) need a minimum score of 500 or International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) with a minimum score of 5.0 to qualify as a university-level student in Norway.
