| Programme description | Meteorology is concerned with the motions and processes taking place in the atmosphere. The physical laws expressed in mathematical equations are used to describe different phenomena. Thus, a good basic knowledge of mathematics and physics is a prerequisite for meteorology studies. At the University of Bergen it is possible to take the master's degree within the following areas of meteorology: Studies of weather phenomena and use of numerical models to predict (simulate) the development of weather systems, studies of local weather and climate conditions, and studies of radiative processes in the atmosphere.; The main objectives are to qualify the candidates for work within weather forecasting or research in meteorology. The candidates will in addition have competence for a lot of different other jobs, for example as school teachers in mathematics, physics and natural sciences.; The master's programme in Geophysics at the University of Bergen is unique, because you will be introduced to both meteorology and oceanography, irrespective of which of the four directions you choose. |

| Formal prerequisites | A first degree (bachelor's degree) of three or four years' duration from an approved institution of higher education, as well as proficiency in the English language. Your bachelor's degree must include knowledge and competence in meteorology and oceanography corresponding to at least 30 ECTS (1 semester), in addition to basic mathematics and physics. |
