| Programme description | In a society where ever more information is stored in computers, and ever more services are delivered electronically, the focus on security is increasing. Example: if political elections were to be held electronically, the system must secure that only those entitled are allowed to vote, and then, only once. Nor should it give opportunities to change given votes. The security aims are dependent on what we expect from the systems. They can mainly be put into three categories.; Confidentiality. Only authorized personnel should have access to the content of a data file or information in a network. Example: A database of student's grades at the university should only be accessible by authorized personnel in the administration. The students should be able to read and print their own grades. ; Integrity. Only authorized personnel should be able to change the content of a data file or information in a network. In the example above, this means that only the staff in the exam office should be able to make entries in the database of student?s grades. It also includes the necessity of protecting the system against outside attack, such as from different types of virus. ; Availability. The system must be stabile and available for authorized users. It has to be protected against attacks which aim to block the system. |
