Programme descriptionThe goal of the programme is to give the students an insight into and an overview of the discipline fish biology. Having completed the programme the students will have a good knowledge of marine biology and in addition specialise in either physiology and anatomy, fish behaviour, genetics and systematics or larval ecology. The students will also be trained in conducting an independent scientific study. ; A master's programme in biology consists of an individual research project (master's thesis) of 60 ECTS, and courses of special topics of 60 ECTS. Some of the courses are compulsory within the specialitations. You will choose the other courses in agreement with your academic supervisor. In agreement with your academic supervisor, you will choose a master's thesis (60 ECTS) and make a progression plan containing important milestones for your project. The master's thesis will often include an experiment. The master's thesis can be based on your own field work and/or available data, or it can be of a more theoretical or experimental character.
 
Application deadlineSelf-financing applicants: Application deadline for applicants from a non-visa country (do not need a visa to enter Norway) is 1 April for the autumn semester/1 October for the spring semester. Applicants from a visa-country (need a visa to enter Norway) have to apply before 1 December for the following academic year.; Applicants for the Quota Sheme: 1 December for the following academic year.

Formal prerequisitesa) Completed a first-degree study of at least three years (B.Sc.) from an approved institution of higher education, or an equivalent background accepted by the University of Bergen. b) Competence in biology corresponding to 60 ECTS (1 year) of introductory biology. c) English proficiency must be documented according to specified requirements. ; Your bachelor's degree must include competence in biology corresponding to 60 ECTS (1 year) of introductory biology.
