| Programme description | The graduate programme is designed to focus on selected topics in German language linguistics and literature. The linguistics component discusses various issues related to the German language. The subjects vary from German grammar in the broad sense to contrastive linguistics, translation theory, semantics/lexicology, sociolinguistics, varieties of German (German in Germany, Austria and Switzerland), phraseology, language learning and language didactics. In several areas, the subjects may also be put into a historical perspective. ; The literature component offers literary and cultural subjects taken from all areas of the German language. The point of view may be historical, with emphasis on literary historical eras from the Baroque up until today, or it may be developed around authorship, text analysis, genres and literary theory. Common to all courses is their discussion and analysis of literary and methodological questions.; The master's programme consists of four courses, each equivalent to 15 ECTS credits, and a master?s thesis of 60 ECTS credit. The master's thesis is to be written in German. |

| Formal prerequisites | A first degree (bachelor's degree) of three or four years' duration from an approved institution of higher education, as well as proficiency in the German and English languages. Your bachelor's degree must have a specialisation in German. Such a specialisation should correspond to at least three semesters of full-time study and include courses in the areas of linguistics and literature. |
