Programme descriptionClimate is a statistical description of how the weather varies in time. It is typically described by mean values, extremes (minimum and maximum) and long term variations of temperature, precipitation, wind, clouds and so on. The global climate system consists of five components: Atmosphere, ocean, cryosphere (ice and snow), land-surface and biosphere. This master's programme focuses on the physical processes in the atmosphere and oceans that govern the climate. The programme will give the students a broad introduction to meteorology, oceanography and statistical methods. Students will also get good knowledge in global and regional climate change associated with the increased anthropogenic greenhouse effect. A typical master thesis deals with problems which need computations and analysis of observational and/or modelled climate data in order to be solved. ; The candidates from this programme should have good knowledge about the climate system and be able to be an active part in the climate debate. Natural areas to work in will be research, education and relevant governmental institutions.; The Master's programme in Geophysics at UoB is unique, because you will be introduced to both meteorology and oceanography, irrespective of which of the four directions you choose.
