| Programme description | The focus of this Master program is Global archaeology, with an emphasis on Middle Eastern and African Archaeology. However the students will be able the specialise in the archaeology of their home country. There is a focus on general archaeological methodology and theory. This is combined with a practical training in archaeological fieldwork, surveying, excavations and analysis of the material. Evolution of man in Africa will be the starting point with an emphasis on Homo Sapiens Sapiens and development of modernity, central themes are the transition the food production and the introduction of iron technology. There is an interdisciplinary approach in the use of anthropological perspectives, in understanding the cultural context of the archaeological material. |
| Application deadline | Please note that the Master's programme in Archaeology starts in August 2009 - it is not possible to apply for this program this time. Students are normally only admitted every second year. |

| Formal prerequisites | A first degree (bachelor´s degree) of three or four years' duration from an approved institution of higher education, as well as proficiency in the English language. Your bachelor's degree must have a specialisation in Archaeology. Such a specialisation should correspond to at least three semesters of full-time study. |
